Water Softening. Why Do You Need It?
Water softening is the process of removing hardness-causing minerals from water, such as calcium and magnesium ions. It helps prevent limescale build-up in pipes and appliances, extends their service life, and improves water quality, making cleaning easier and reducing the amount of detergent needed.
Hard water causes many unpleasant and costly experiences: limescale deposits damage household appliances, build up on surfaces that constantly need to be cleaned with household chemicals, reduce water flow, and produce unpleasant foreign odors that also take effort and products to remove — products that, unfortunately, are often only a temporary fix.
What should you do, and where should you start, to reduce or completely eliminate limescale in your home for good?
Water Testing
The first thing you should do if the water in your home, well, or elsewhere is hard – is to have a water test done. Since we operate throughout Lithuania, we carry out water tests based on the client's specific issue and location. The following water testing options are available: municipal water testing, well water testing, borehole water testing, new-home handover testing, and a free rapid water test. If you're not sure which one suits you best, contact our specialists by phone or email and they'll advise you and select the most suitable option.
Laboratory water tests are completed within a few days, unless a more complex analysis is required, while the rapid test is carried out at our showrooms, so you can get a quick answer and consultation simply by visiting us.
Water Softening Filters
Once the water test is done, the next step is installing equipment to help soften the water – that is, water softening filters. Our range includes a wide selection of water filters, water filtration systems, and various accessories. Choosing the right one isn't always easy, so here are a few of the most popular options for home, work, and industrial use:

Water Softening Filters and Their Benefits
As mentioned earlier, water softening is a big help for keeping your home clean and extending the life of your appliances, but it's also a great help in keeping houseplants lush and green. Limescale in water – is the result of an excessive amount of dissolved magnesium and calcium, which makes the water hard. While it isn't harmful to human health when drunk, it's often devastating for plants.
It's not without reason that plants are recommended to be watered with rainwater, since it's soft and hasn't been affected by the environment (provided, of course, that the rain falls where the environment is also free of major external factors). However, when living in cities, collecting rainwater is quite difficult, and we don't always have somewhere to store it — there may not be enough of it to water the plants, and waiting for rain or snow isn't always an option.
Can You Drink Softened Water?
Yes, it's fine to drink and has no negative effect on your health. Descaling drinking water can actually help if you have a more sensitive stomach or have young children and give them water straight from the faucet, or if you buy separate drinking water (something you'll no longer need to do once you have a water softening filter).
An automatic water softening filter with a cation-exchange resin is used to soften water; during this process, calcium and magnesium compounds are removed, making the water softer. If the water is extremely hard and well beyond the standard limits, additional equipment is included to improve the situation.
Hair and Skin
One of the most common problems associated with hard water – is dry, irritated skin, which causes a lot of discomfort that we then try to soothe with chemical products – expensive cosmetics. If you already have skin problems, hard water can make them flare up and cause even more damage. As mentioned, drinking hard water isn't unsafe, but if you want to keep your skin healthy and save on products that are expensive and not always effective, water softening can be a real lifesaver.
Hard water dries out not just the skin but also the hair, causing it to become brittle, so we end up using even more cosmetic products to keep our hair healthy — but again, that's only temporary and inefficient.
Once the water is softened, you'll notice the difference right away: your hair will start to shine and gain luster, your scalp will grow stronger, you'll be able to avoid hair loss, and it can even help speed up hair growth. Over time, you'll no longer need so many different, expensive products that may contain ingredients capable of triggering allergic reactions.
The same applies to the skin on your face and body. Softened water can reduce skin tightness and dryness, help the cosmetics you use absorb better, and help reduce or completely eliminate dermatitis.
Industry and Offices
Water softening isn't new — for many years, people boiled water for good reason — but today there are convenient, fast, and long-lasting solutions that will make your life easier, improve your health, and help save your valuable time.
Water softening isn't a concern for private homes alone; it's just as relevant in offices, where water is consumed in large volumes, so limescale problems arise more often and more quickly. In industry and manufacturing, where water is one of the most important energy sources, water softening can help reduce other energy costs, such as electricity or chemical cleaning products.
We tailor all our water softening systems to your specific needs and purpose, based on the water issues identified after a water test, so it's important to consult with our specialists.
